ABS INSPECTION - RETROFITTING

After installing Anti-Lock Braking System (ABS) and the issue of a certificate of appropriate installing by an authorized technician and the person in charge of an authorized workshop and the certificate of well- functioning by an authorized inspector respectively, a special road worthiness test is conducted by a Motor Vehicle Inspection Center, which is considered as conversion, in order to verify that the Anti-Lock Braking System was installed according to what was mentioned in the two certificates above, and for the Motor vehicle Inspection Center to issue the relevant certificate.

Documents for the conversion special inspection

Before starting the conversion special inspection of the vehicle, due to retrofitting, the owner of the vehicle or its representative:

Submits:

• An application

  of the conversion special inspection.

• A certificate

  of installation together with its attached documents (a detailed chart and type approval will be proved by the relevant certificate which will accompany the ABS certificate).

• A certificate

  of well-functioning by an authorized inspector.

Presents:

• The registration

  of the vehicle for those in service or the vehicle registration certificate of the customs for the secondhand vehicles imported into our country before 2009.

• The valid Road Worthiness Test Card

  without serious or dangerous deficiencies being reported on it.

• Evidence

  that the specific fee for the conversion special inspection has been imposed.

• The original invoice

  for its purchase and the original service provided sheet for its installation. These documents prove that the ABS (RETROFIT KIT) is new and the vehicle registration number is labelled (for vehicles in service) or the chassis number for the rest.

Retrofit special inspection

• Inspection of the vehicle

  braking system is conducted

• Verification audit is conducted to verify that:

  • The vehicle to be inspected

    is the one described in the registration or in its vehicle registration certificate and in its certificates of its installation and well-functioning.

  • That the Anti-Lock Braking System

    described and shown in the above certificates, in the detailed chart and the type approval has been installed in the vehicle, that its building elements (the ones accessible at inspection) are identified in the vehicle and that the waning lights function according to the way stated in the certificate of well-functioning. In the cases of vehicle combinations the function of the warning light of the towed vehicle onto the towing vehicle is inspected. It is a visual check.

  • The electrical wiring interconnection

    with a towing or towed vehicle described in the certificates of well-functioning is installed in the vehicle as described.

If no serious or dangerous deficiencies are found during the inspection of the braking system of the vehicle and if during the verification audit appearing in the above paragraph, there are not any remarks stated, a certificate is issued in three copies, one for the vehicle owner, one for the competent Transport and Communications Service of the Prefecture which in its turn will issue the new vehicle registration and one for the files of the Motor Vehicle Inspection Center.

The owner of a vehicle in which Anti-Lock Braking System retrofit took place, submits the certificate issued by the Motor Vehicle Inspection Center according to the procedure in the competent Transport and Communications Service of the Prefecture which in its turn issues the new registration adding the following remark:

• «APPROVED CONVERSION - ABS INSTALLATION» (the bold type is used by the Service).

• «APPROVED CONVERSION – ABS ON… AXLE» (the bold type is used by the Service) in cases of mixed braking system.
